The Movie and Book

This film is based upon the classic book, My Friend Flicka, by Mary O'Hara.  As the movie begins young Katy McLaughlin happily returns home to her family ranch in Wyoming for the summer after academic troubles at boarding school.  Although highly intelligent and determined, Katy has a rebellious spirit that often gets her in trouble. Back home she discovers an unlikely friend in a wild horse that she names "Flicka," the Swedish word for "pretty girl." Throughout the movie Katy struggles to tame her wild horse and gain the trust of her father. Katy is determined to prove that she is capable of one day taking over the family ranch.
